A cracked, deteriorating driveway doesn't just look rough - it's a drainage problem waiting to get worse. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this job. The existing concrete was shot, the garage pad area was broken up, and the whole setup needed to come out before anything new could go in.

Tear-out is where a lot of contractors cut corners. We don't. We brought in the equipment needed to break out the old concrete and haul it off the right way. The carport area, the garage pad section, the driveway run from the street - all of it had to be cleared down to bare ground before we could set the proper base. That means grading the subgrade correctly so water moves away from the structure, not toward it.

Once the excavation and finish grading were done, we set forms, laid in wire mesh reinforcement, and got the base compacted and ready for pour. The wire mesh is one of those details that makes a real difference long-term - it keeps the slab from cracking apart under load and shifting over time. You do it right up front, or you end up back out there fixing it in a few years.

This job also included a driveway addition that tied into the existing approach from the street. Getting that transition right - both in grade and in how the new surface meets the old - takes care and attention. We used straw cover on the surrounding lawn area to protect the disturbed ground around the new work. The finished driveway surface came out clean, well-graded, and built to hold up.

A solid driveway and garage pad affect more than just curb appeal. They control where water goes, how your vehicles sit, and how your property holds its value over time. When it's done right from the ground up, you don't have to think about it again for a long time.
